Overview
The goal was to create more compelling graphics showcasing a versatile range of styles that encapsulate what Ride Snowboards is about - rough around the edges and focused on having a good time. They are also seen as having a "for the people" mentality. The project lasted 10 weeks, during which I designed 5 clothing pieces and 4 snowboard graphics across various board shapes.
Problem to Solve
This project set out to design for the local snowboard company Ride Snowboards, which could benefit from more variety in snowboard graphics and merchandise to enhance its brand.
Research & Insight
I compiled a huge catalog of board graphics from various companies while looking at the history of Ride Snowboards and snowboarding in general. This involved analyzing how brand logos, names, and artwork are placed on snowboards. The research aimed to understand how my designs could stand out among competitors and appeal to the customers of Ride Snowboards.
Design Process
I masked out existing Ride snowboards and created unique mockups using accurate board shapes that are currently being made by Ride. The aim was to develop a wide array of design aesthetics that could appeal to diverse audiences while staying true to the Ride brand. For clothing, I sought a balance of subdued and graphic-heavy pieces. Illustration graphics were done in Procreate, while the rest were made in Photoshop and Illustrator.
Final Design
The final designs present a diverse range of styles catering to the self-expressive nature of snowboarders. The graphics and apparel better represent the ethos of Ride Snowboards, drawing in consumers with bold aesthetics. The merchandise injects more personality into Ride compared to their current website offerings.
